Who will people be listening to in 2060?

Tonight I'm studying for the last midterm of my collegiate career. For the past four years I've counted on caffeine, the occasional cigarette, and music to get me through many nights similar to this. John, Ringo, Paul and George are keeping me company at this moment. More after the jump.

It's crazy to me how music made by people 50 years ago can still be relevant and meaningful to someone from a completely different generation. If you were to look at the frequently played artists on my iPod you would find Bob Dylan and The Beatles, alongside Lil Wayne and the Kings of Leon.

The key to those older artists relevance is that they made timeless music. People make deep, emotional connections to their songs decades after their creation. You know the songs; the ones you listen to on the radio, all the way through, even though you've already parked your car. Some examples I can think of are "With or Without You" and "All Your Friends." I can only imagine how stressful of an endeavor it must be to create timeless music, whether you're an acoustic guitar player or a bigger-than-life rapper. Here is the question I often find myself wondering; what artists from my generation will successfully create songs that stand the test of time? What music from now will be playing during parties and late night study sessions in 2060? Jay-Z, MGMT, or LCD Soundsystem? Pitbull, Miley Cyrus, or Soulja Boy? Hopefully not the latter.
